How to add a meta title in Webflow?

Flowversity··2 min read

The meta title (also called the title tag) is one of the most important SEO elements on a page. It appears in search engine results, browser tabs, and social media previews. Webflow lets you set meta titles for every page, including CMS template pages.

For static pages

  1. Open the Pages panel in the Designer (left sidebar).
  2. Click the gear icon next to the page you want to edit.
  3. Scroll to the SEO Settings section.
  4. Find the Title field and enter your meta title.
  5. Publish the site for changes to take effect.

Each page should have a unique, descriptive title. Avoid duplicating the same title across multiple pages.

For CMS template pages

CMS pages use the template's SEO settings, which can include dynamic fields.

  1. Open the CMS tab and navigate to the Collection.
  2. Click Template to edit the template page.
  3. Click the gear icon on the Pages panel for the template.
  4. In the Title field, you can type static text or click + Add Field to insert dynamic CMS values.

For example, a blog post template title might be set to: {Name} | Flowversity — this dynamically inserts each post's title.

Writing effective meta titles

  • Keep titles between 50–60 characters. Google truncates longer titles in search results.
  • Place important keywords toward the beginning.
  • Include your brand name, typically at the end: "How to Build a Navbar in Webflow | Flowversity"
  • Make each page title unique — duplicate titles confuse search engines.
  • Write for humans first, search engines second. A compelling title improves click-through rate.

Common issues

Title not updating in search results — Google caches titles and may take days to weeks to reflect changes. Use Google Search Console to request indexing after publishing changes.

CMS pages all show the same title — The template likely has a static title instead of a dynamic one. Edit the template and use a CMS field reference in the title.

Title shows the Webflow default — If you leave the title field blank, Webflow may use the page name from the Pages panel. Always set a custom title for every page.
