How to remove unused classes in Webflow?

Flowversity··2 min read

Over time, Webflow projects accumulate classes that are no longer applied to any element. These unused classes clutter the Style Manager and can make your stylesheet larger than necessary. Webflow provides a built-in way to clean them up.

Using the Clean Up tool

Webflow has a dedicated feature for removing unused classes:

  1. Open the Style Manager (press G then S, or click the paintbrush icon at the bottom of the left panel).
  2. Click the filter icon (funnel) at the top of the Style Manager.
  3. Select Unused classes from the filter options.
  4. This filters the list to show only classes that are not applied to any element in your project.
  5. Click the "Clean up" button that appears when the filter is active.
  6. Confirm the action — Webflow will delete all unused classes at once.

This is the fastest way to remove unused classes in Webflow. It removes everything in one operation.

Removing individual unused classes

If you prefer to remove classes one at a time:

  1. Open the Style Manager.
  2. Filter by Unused classes.
  3. Right-click any class in the list.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. Confirm the deletion.

This gives you more control over which classes are removed, which can be useful if you want to keep certain classes for future use.

What counts as unused

A class is considered unused when no element in your project currently has it applied. This includes:

  • Classes created but never assigned
  • Classes that were previously applied to elements that have since been deleted
  • Classes from copied components that you have since modified

Classes that are part of interaction triggers or conditional visibility settings but are not directly applied to elements may still appear as unused — so review carefully before bulk deleting.

Tips for keeping your project clean

  • Rename and organize classes with a clear naming convention from the start.
  • Audit regularly — especially after major design changes or section deletions.
  • Use the Style Manager filters to check for unused classes before publishing.
  • Combo classes with an unused base class will also be removed during cleanup.

Removing unused classes keeps your project organized and can slightly reduce the final CSS file size, which contributes to faster page loads.
