How to reset a style in Webflow?

Flowversity··2 min read

Over-styled an element and want to start clean? Webflow offers several ways to reset individual properties, entire classes, or go back to default values.

Resetting individual properties

In the Style panel, every property has a small indicator showing its source:

  • Blue label — styled on the current class
  • Orange label — inherited from a combo class
  • Gray label — inherited from a parent element or global tag

To reset a single property:

  1. Hover over the property value in the Style panel
  2. Click the arrow icon that appears (or right-click the property)
  3. Select Reset or Set to default

The property reverts to its inherited or default value. If it was set on the current class, the class-level override is removed.

Resetting all styles on a class

To wipe all custom styling from a class:

  1. Select the element
  2. In the Style panel, right-click the class name
  3. Choose Reset all styles

This removes every property override on that class, returning the element to its default browser styles plus any inherited values.

Removing a class entirely

If you want to start completely fresh:

  1. Select the element
  2. In the Style panel, click the x next to the class name
  3. The element becomes unstyled — a blank canvas

You can also replace the class by typing a new name in the class field.

Using "Set as base" to clean up

If an element has accumulated styles through combo classes or direct edits, the Clean Up option in the class menu can help. It removes any property that matches the default or inherited value, keeping only the meaningful overrides.

Undoing style changes

Webflow maintains a full undo history within each session:

  • Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (Mac) — undo
  • Ctrl+Shift+Z or Cmd+Shift+Z — redo

This works for style changes, layout edits, and most other actions in the Designer. Use undo to revert to a previous state if you've gone too far with styling.

When to reset vs. start over

  • Reset specific properties when most of the styling is correct and only a few values need reverting
  • Reset all styles when the class is beyond salvaging but you want to keep the class name
  • Remove and recreate when you need a fundamentally different approach to styling the element
