How to delete a page without breaking links?
Deleting a page in Webflow is simple, but doing it carelessly can leave broken links across your site and in search engine results. A few precautionary steps prevent 404 errors and protect your SEO.
Before you delete the page
Audit internal links. Open the page in the Designer and review any links pointing to it. Check your navigation menus, footer links, buttons, and rich text content. Webflow shows broken link warnings in the Designer, but it's worth manually checking pages that reference the one you're deleting.
Check external backlinks. Use Google Search Console or a tool like Ahrefs to see if any external sites link to the page. If valuable backlinks point to it, consider redirecting instead of deleting.
Review analytics. If the page still receives significant traffic, deleting it removes that entry point. A redirect to a relevant alternative page is usually the better choice.
Setting up 301 redirects
Before deleting, go to Project Settings > Publishing > 301 Redirects. Add a redirect from the old page URL to the most relevant existing page. For example, if you're deleting /old-service, redirect it to /services or whatever page best serves the same intent.
Use a 301 (permanent) redirect — this tells search engines the page has moved permanently and transfers most of the SEO value to the destination.
Deleting the page
Once redirects are in place, go to Pages in the Designer sidebar. Click the gear icon next to the page, then click Delete at the bottom of the settings panel. Confirm the deletion.
For CMS collection items, open the item in the CMS and click Delete. The same redirect logic applies — set up a 301 from the old URL before removing the item.
After deletion
Publish your site. Redirects and deletions don't take effect until you publish.
Submit updated sitemap. Webflow auto-generates your sitemap and excludes deleted pages on the next publish. Submit the updated sitemap in Google Search Console to speed up deindexing.
Monitor for 404s. Check Google Search Console's coverage report over the following weeks for any URLs returning 404 errors that you missed with redirects.
